"Dr. Kanner is one of the best dentists I have seen. Very trustworthy and thorough. Pushed me to see an orthodontist to straighten my teeth rather than rely on cosmetic dentistry (which would have been very lucrative for him)…"
O.S.
"Dr. Adam Salm and manager, Ethel are a wonderful, painless team! I've been a happy patient for years for both cleanings and crowns. It's very comforting to have them as my dental team."

"Dr. Kanner is a caring, compassionate, and extremely skilled dentist. He communicates thoroughly, and he takes a preventative approach. The hygienist, Jackie, cleans teeth so they feel brand new. And she makes one feel comfortable."

"I and my family have been patients of Dr. Salm for 6 years. Absolutely the highest quality of care. It so happened I had to have my tooth evaluated elsewhere by endodontist who stated she could not have done root canal better. Also very friendly and pleasure to visit. Finally, his assistant Ethel, great administrator, is ultra knowledgeable about insurance, keeps all paperwork, appointments and reminders on track."
S.K.
"Kanner Dental offers excellent and comprehensive dental care. The dental cleanings are well above par and the dentists at this practice serve their patients well. The receptionists are also very helpful. Thank you!"

"Dr. Salm is an excellent dentist. He is very informative and explains the type of work he is performing and what is needed to resolve any dental issues. We have been going to him for over 6 years and he provides high quality work, from dental cleanings to taking x-rays, to fillings/crowns and more. Ethel, the office manager, responds very quickly and is a pleasure to communicate with. She is extremely helpful in scheduling appointments, and is super helpful in submitting dental claims. She goes the extra mile to help in any way she can. All in all, Adam and Ethel are two of the best professionals you will ever encounter. Highly recommend Dr. Salm and his office staff!"
S.C.
"Considering it was my first time visit I didn’t know what to expect. On the phone I was immediately welcomed by staff(Ethel) who took care of business- set up appt within 2hrs/I had a loose crown/explained new patient procedure. Dr. Salm (&in-practice staff) were extremely professional, courteous and attentive to my situation. Dr. Salm explained my options in detail, set up follow-up appt/I needed to establish a new dentist in the city, I feel confident I have found the right one."
D.B.
"I've seen Dr. Salm for years and always recommend him to friends looking for a great dentist. Warm and professional, he always takes time to explain X-rays and procedures. I really like that he does cleanings himself, instead of the parade of different hygienists I encountered in other practices I've gone to in the city. His office staff, especially Ethel, are very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!"
E.S.
"Dr. Salm and his staff, particularly Ethel, provide experience and expertise. They behave professionally and he does not push to do to do dental procedures or work like some other dentists I have used do. That is why I’ve been coming back to him for several years now. I trust him, which is very important."
S.S.
"After years of searching and trying different dentists, I can confidently say I’ve found my dental office with Salm Dental. Dr. Salm makes me feel super comfortable (a rarity for me at the dentist) and has oftentimes caught or recommended things other dentists never did — for instance, recommending I switch to an electric toothbrush so that I’m softer on my gums. He’s super friendly and really cares about his work and his patients and it shows! Ethel, the Office Manager, is also amazing and SO thorough. Elsewhere I’ve been left in the dark regarding costs, what insurance will cover, etc. - but Ethel does all of the due diligence and informs you of each cost every step of the way. It’s really such a relief! Highly, highly recommend Salm Dental - and believe it or not, I’m actually looking forward to my next cleaning."
M.K.
"I’ve been going to Dr. Salm for years now and even when I moved to LA - I refused to change my dentist, they are that GOOD. Ethel, the office manager, is so kind and accommodating - I honestly could not imagine going anywhere else! They take care of you from the moment you make your appointment! :)"
P.P.
"I came to Dr. Salm through a referral for an emergency. Ethel his office manager fit me in and they were wonderful from start to finish. I am switching. What a wonderful and caring practice when I felt no one else could help me."
N.M.
"I even enjoy going to the dentist. Great staff and I have total faith in Drs Kanner. Neil has been my personal dentist for 20 years, and my daughter and her husband and several friends have become his patients on my recommendation."
M.G.
"Great office and Dr Kanner is very gentle. He’s caring and always providing great service. He knows I’m very scared of the dentist and explains everything to me so I understand what will happen during my visit…"
J.S.
"Dr. Jed Kanner is a true professional. He has a great disposition and a calming manner. Naomi, the dental assistant is personable and is extremely thorough and gentle. I highly recommend this practice and put my full trust in Dr. Jed Kanner."
J.G.
"It has been a pleasure to be treated by Dr Kanner and his staff. It was a completely positive environment and the staff was extremely professional. I would recommend them to anyone looking for great dental care…"
J.R.
"Is there a better dentist than Dr. Jed Kanner, DDS? I don’t think so. I’ve had many dentists over my 68 years, some of them actually family members. Dr. Kanner has been our family’s dentist for the past 35 years…"
S.P.
"More than capable hands! Dr Jed Kanner has an amazing touch, is gentle and skilled and has a great “bedside manner” as he explains everything that is going on, what the plan is to address it and keeps you informed as he proceeds to accomplish that plan. You could not be in more capable hands!"
K.K.
"Dr. Salm has such kindness and empathy, I will always use him as a dentist. Im very afraid to get my teeth cleaned and he walked me through every step of the way, playing my favorite 80s music on his Alexa to relax me. Ethel, his office manager is also so kind hearted and pleasant to deal with. I explained to her my plan for my smile and she assisted with fees every step of the way, making sure to stay in my budget because I have no insurance. My smile has never been so perfect, straight, clean and white. Dr Salm and his staff have given me confidence I never had before and hopefully this brings my modeling career to the next step! Thank you Dr. Salm and Ethel!!! :)"
E.M.
"Dr Salm was very thorough and took very good care of my son. Ethel, his administrative assistant, jumped through hoops for us. She was incredible!!! I highly recommend this practice!"

FAQs

Can I submit a new-patient form before my visit?

Yes. Please email your completed New Patient Form before your visit whenever possible so we can get you seen faster.

Do you accept my insurance plan?

We are out of network with most dental insurances but will happily submit an out-of-network claim on your behalf upon your request.

How do I book an appointment?

You can request an appointment online using any Book Appointment button on this site, or call us at (347) 640-5989. Our office will call you back to confirm the day and time, and we will email you a New Patient Form to complete before your visit.

Which dentists will I see?

Our practice is led by Dr. Jed Kanner, DDS, Dr. Adam Salm, DMD, and Dr. Hayley Grandeau, DMD. You can read each of their backgrounds in the Our Team section above.

Where is the office located?

We are on the Upper East Side at 53 East 66th Street, Ground Floor, New York, NY 10065. The Location & Hours section above has a map and our current hours.

Do you treat children as well as adults?

Yes. We care for children, adults and seniors, and we offer preventive treatments families often ask about, including sealants, fluoride treatments and space maintainers.

Do you offer same-day crowns?

Yes. We offer CEREC same-day crowns, so many crowns can be designed and placed in a single visit. Whether a same-day crown is right for your tooth is something the dentist confirms at your appointment.

What should I do if I have a dental emergency?

Call the office at (347) 640-5989 and tell us what is happening. A broken tooth, a lost filling or crown, swelling or ongoing pain is best looked at promptly, and we will advise you on the next step.

Does a dental cleaning hurt?

Most people feel some pressure and mild discomfort at most. Sensitive teeth or inflamed gums can make it less comfortable, so say so during the cleaning and the hygienist can adjust.

What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?

Call right away: a tooth seen within an hour has the best chance of being saved. Hold it by the crown, not the root, rinse it gently without scrubbing, and keep it in milk on the way. For heavy bleeding or a head injury, call 911.

Why do my gums bleed when I brush?

Bleeding gums are often an early sign of gum inflammation from plaque along the gumline. Gentle brushing twice a day and daily flossing often help within a couple of weeks. If the bleeding doesn't stop, book a visit so it can be checked.

What can I do about sensitive teeth?

Sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet things can come from worn enamel, exposed roots, a cavity or a cracked tooth. A toothpaste made for sensitive teeth helps many people, but sensitivity that lasts or gets worse is worth having looked at.

Are dental X-rays safe?

Dental X-rays use a very low dose of radiation and are taken only when needed to see what an exam can't, such as decay between teeth. Tell us if you are or might be pregnant.

What's the difference between a filling and a crown?

A filling repairs a smaller area of decay inside a tooth. A crown covers the whole visible tooth and is used when too much of it is damaged for a filling to hold. Your dentist will explain which one a tooth needs and why.

How can I keep my teeth healthy between visits?

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth once a day, and keep sugary snacks and drinks to mealtimes. Replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles fray.
